I've been a private training consultant for the past 25 years. In that time I've negotiated thousands of business agreements.
Initially, I wasn't a great negotiator--and I realized that. So I set out on a process of learning and experimentation in negotiating. In the process I became a better negotiator and I developed theories and practices that result in better business deals.
Now, my professional life involves helping others get better deals. Negotiating is a complement of skills and knowledge, not some inherent character trait. Like other fields of practice it can be learned. I've trained people in all kinds of roles and organizations to be effective negotiators. I coach negotiating teams through the process.
